Mike is a conservationist and naturalist at heart and very much enjoys the outdoors – backpacking, fishing and studying animals, to name a few - especially the animals. While growing up, Mike was constantly engaged observing and catching just about everything that moved. All creatures fascinated Mike, even the aggressive or dangerous ones. To hold them and enjoy up-close, or bring back to share with others was all part of the process of learning and understanding all that nature has to offer.

Mike has experience handling rattlesnakes, lizards, birds, and he even rescued a baby mink in Oregon one summer. As a teenager, Mike obtained his falconer's license raising and training hawks to hunt. In conjunction with his love for birds of prey, Mike was regularly enlisted by his local game warden in his hometown to help rehabilitate injured or confiscated owls and hawks. In fact, initially, Mike's career goal was to be a game warden. How Mike became an engineer is another story entirely.

Shortly before graduating from college, Mike started working as a design engineer for a major aerospace company. Mike has spent most of his career developing electro-mechanical systems for the defense industry. His experience ranges from detail design work to management of complex development programs worth millions of dollars.

Mike also has a general contractor's license and loves remodeling and creating things with his hands. Although, no longer a practicing building contractor, Mike enjoys doing his own home improvement projects and helping friends and family with theirs.
